What to consider regarding Flat Roofing

  1. Local Regulations: Bath is known for its historic and architectural significance. Therefore, there might be specific regulations and guidelines in place. For example, to ensure that any roofing work done in the city maintains the visual integrity of the area. Consequently, before undertaking any roofing project, it’s important to check with the local authorities or building departments. They can help you to understand the requirements and obtain necessary permits.
  2. Materials: The choice of roofing materials should consider both the aesthetic appeal and the functionality required for a flat roof. For example, materials like EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin), PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), and modified bitumen. These are common choices for flat roofs due to their durability and waterproofing properties.
  3. Drainage: Proper drainage is crucial for flat roofs to prevent water accumulation and potential damage. Therefore, various drainage systems like internal drains, scuppers, or tapered insulation systems may be used.
  4. Insulation: Proper insulation is essential to ensure energy efficiency and prevent heat loss. Crucially, quality insulation materials should be selected to meet local energy codes and regulations.
  5. Expertise: Given the historical and architectural significance of Bath, it’s advisable to work with roofing professionals. Ideally, a company who has experience in dealing with flat roofs in similar environments. Crucially, they can provide guidance on materials, techniques, and design considerations that align with the city’s unique characteristics.
  6. Aesthetics: When considering flat roofing options, it’s important to choose materials and colours that harmonise with the local architecture. Additionally, they should contribute to the overall visual appeal of the area.
  7. Environmental Impact: Consider environmentally friendly roofing options that promote sustainability. Therefore, green roofing systems or energy-efficient materials may be worth exploring.

Consider Maintenance

Flat roofs require regular maintenance to identify and address issues promptly. Therefore, with Bath’s sometimes wet and damp climate, maintenance is particularly important to prevent water damage and ensure the longevity of the roof. Crucially, a timely intervention for a roof repair or chimney repair can prevent the need for a roof replacement when caught too late.

Finding the right roofer for your project

Remember, every building and roofing project is unique. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult with local roofing experts who are familiar with Bath. For example, the specific requirements and architectural context to ensure that your flat roofing project meets both practical and aesthetic considerations. Moreover, if you have a pitched roof or live in the nearby Bristol area there are plenty of local companies to choose from. Also, see our roofing guides for Bath and roof repairs in Bath pages.

From the moment we met Ben we knew he was reliable and trustworthy. He talked through the repairs that needed to be carried out on our roof and only quoted us for the work that needed to be done. His team were very professional, they carried out the work within one day and tidied everything before leaving. We have already recommended Ben to friends and will certainly use Ben and his team again in the future; in fact he has already quoted us for a flat roof repair.

Two flat rooves replaced, and some chimney repairs. Could not have asked for better. Ben and his team are professional; friendly and efficient. Right from the initial phone call we were kept up to date with everything. As soon as the weather was good enough the work was completed in three days, the rubbish gone the following day, and the scaffolding down within a week. If we needed more roofing work done, we would not hesitate to call again. Highly recommended.

Ben and his team did a brilliant job when i recently required a new roof on my house and all done at a very reasonable price. They were a great bunch of chaps who worked very hard to get the roof finished quickly but thoroughly, tidied up well at the end of the job and I would definitely recommend this company.
